Get Help, Give Help

As seen in the Daily Breeze and Hometown News newspapers

THE GET HELP PART: Harvest Westchester has a wonderful program to help Westchester residents with harvesting their fruit trees.  For those of you who have a difficult time getting up to the top of your fruit trees and watch in frustration as the fruit falls to the ground, bruised and un-used, this is what you’ve been waiting for!  Volunteers from Harvest Westchester will come to your home and harvest your trees for you!  Or, if you can pick it all yourself you can either have the volunteers transport your extra fruit for you or you can bring it yourself to Holy Nativity Episcopal Church (from which Harvest Westchester operates).

THE GIVE HELP PART:  By allowing them to help you out, you agree to help others out by giving whatever fruit you don’t want or need to the volunteers.  Those volunteers then give that unneeded fruit to the LAX Food Pantry so that people who are hungry can benefit from your fruit!  The Rev. Peter Rood, of Holy Nativity Parish, says in the Hometown News article, “This is a simple yet profound project.  It offers folks an opportunity to share from their bounty with those who desperately need help during this rough economic time.”

Don’t let your un-used fruit sit on the ground and rot!  If you would like to sign up for this program go to Harvest Westchester’s website: www.harvestwestchester.org.

Future Educational Opportunities

Religion in America is all up for grabs these days.

And I think God is to blame ... God is giving the tray a good shake, and it's giving all of us a chance to re-think who we are when we claim the name of Christ for ourselves.

One of the best writers going today on religion in America is Diane Butler Bass.

P.S. It's her latest book, "A People's History of Christianity" that we'll be studying for the 09/10 season, beginning the first Wed. in October.

Check out Diane Butler Bass and her blog
